How much does a website cost in Switzerland? Real prices for 2026

Chris · 25/10/2026 · 12 min read

In short

A website in Switzerland costs CHF 490 to over CHF 100,000, a simple SME website CHF 2,000 to 5,000. Running costs come on top: hosting and domain CHF 10 to 99 a month, maintenance CHF 50 to 100 a month.

In Switzerland, a website costs anything from a few hundred to several tens of thousands of francs. The range is so wide because ‘website’ covers very different things. Here you will find real market prices from two surveys, hourly rates, running costs and the extras people often forget. You also get a checklist for comparing quotes like for like.

The key facts

  • A website in Switzerland costs CHF 490 to over CHF 100,000. A simple SME website comes in at CHF 2,000 to 5,000, and the median starting price is around CHF 2,900 (digitalawards.ch, May 2026).
  • In the Rhine Valley, Liechtenstein and Vorarlberg, a website with 5 to 10 pages typically costs CHF 2,200 to 3,500. A one-pager there costs CHF 1,200 to 1,800 (our market overview, 24 October 2026).
  • An hour of web design costs CHF 80 to 150 in the region and CHF 120 to 250 across the Swiss market.
  • Hosting and domain cost CHF 10 to 99 a month, maintenance CHF 50 to 100. If you look after it yourself, an SME website costs around CHF 140 to 1,200 a year.
  • At chrismachts, a one-pager costs from CHF 990, a website for businesses from CHF 1,900 and a shop from CHF 1,900. The fixed price is in the quote.

Where the figures come from

This guide draws on two sets of data and on our own guide prices:

  1. The digitalawards.ch market overview, May 2026. The platform analysed 219 public price points from 312 profiles of Swiss agencies (What does web design cost in Switzerland in 2026, in German, report dated 29 May 2026). These are starting prices, as agencies state them on their websites.
  2. Our own market overview of 24 October 2026. We analysed the public price lists of 14 providers from the Rhine Valley, Liechtenstein and Vorarlberg. The figures are the providers' own, and VAT is only included where they state it. Providers in Vorarlberg price in euros.
  3. Guide prices from chrismachts. They are marked ‘from’ and show where things start. We agree the fixed price after our call, and it goes in the quote.

We checked website builder prices directly with the providers on 25 October 2026. All amounts are in Swiss francs unless stated otherwise. Anything we cannot back up is not in this article.

Market prices for 2026 at a glance

The digitalawards.ch overview gives this price ladder:

Type of websitePrice range in the overview
Digital business cardCHF 490 to 1,900
Simple SME websiteCHF 2,000 to 5,000
Solid business websiteCHF 5,000 to 15,000
Website built to bring in steady enquiriesCHF 10,000 to 30,000 and more
Platform, shop, portal or appCHF 25,000 to 100,000 and more

The median public starting price is around CHF 2,900, the average around CHF 4,250. As a realistic entry point for an SME, the overview names CHF 3,500 to 6,000. What you pay in the end is usually above the starting price.

So decide first what the website should do for you. Only then is a price comparison worth it.

What a website costs by type and route

There are three routes to a website: build it yourself with a website builder, hire a freelancer or a small agency, or go to a larger agency. The table shows what each route costs for each type of website.

Type of websiteBuilder, do it yourself¹Freelancer or small agency²Agency³

Platform or portal–no public prices in the regionCHF 25,000 to 100,000 and more

¹ Hostpoint Sites CHF 9 to 25 a month, Squarespace CHF 15 to 27 a month billed annually. Both accessed on 25 October 2026. Add a .ch domain at CHF 15 to 15.50 a year and your own working time. Squarespace includes selling in every plan, with a 2% fee per sale on the Basic plan.

² Our market overview of 24 October 2026, 14 providers from the Rhine Valley, Liechtenstein and Vorarlberg, providers' own figures, copy usually not included.

³ digitalawards.ch market overview, May 2026, starting prices of Swiss agencies. The shop entry price is a provider example from the report.

A builder is cheapest if you have time and the website stays small. If it is meant to bring in enquiries, the professional route usually pays off.

Hourly rates and a worked example for 10 pages

Many providers charge by the hour. According to our market overview, providers in the Rhine Valley, Liechtenstein and Vorarlberg charge CHF 80 to 150 an hour. Across the Swiss market, hourly rates are CHF 120 to 250.

Here is how to work out a website with 10 pages. The hours are an assumption for this example, not a quote:

StepHours (assumed)
Call, structure and concept4
Design8
Building the ten pages15
Adding content, form, Google profile6
Testing on mobile, legal pages, going live3
Total36

36 hours at CHF 100 comes to CHF 3,600, at CHF 150 to CHF 5,400. At CHF 250 an hour, the same website costs CHF 9,000. Copy is not included in this calculation. That matches the price lists: in our region, 10 pages cost CHF 2,900 to 4,500, usually without copy.

Hidden costs: what pushes the price up

A ‘from’ price shows what the smallest package costs. According to digitalawards.ch, an offer ‘from CHF 1,490’ can end up costing CHF 4,000. A teaser offer there starts at CHF 990 to 2,500, and the likely final price is CHF 3,500 to 5,500. These items often come on top:

ItemExtra costSource
Rewriting the copyCHF 1,000 to 6,000digitalawards.ch
Second languageplus 30% to 100%; one provider in Vorarlberg charges EUR 590digitalawards.ch, our market overview

Integrations and special features such as calculatorsCHF 2,000 to 20,000 and moredigitalawards.ch

Two items have no market figure in our sources but often cost extra: photos and legal pages. Your own photos of the business save you a photographer or stock images. Some providers include the legal notice and privacy policy in the package, others don't. So ask every provider what the price includes and what it leaves out.

What a website costs per year and per month

Once the site is live, there are costs for hosting and upkeep:

ItemPer monthPer yearSource
.ch domain–CHF 15.50; at Hostpoint CHF 15, CHF 5 in the first yeardigitalawards.ch, Hostpoint
Hosting, often with domainCHF 10 to 99CHF 120 to 1,188digitalawards.ch
Maintenance and updatesCHF 50 to 100CHF 600 to 1,200our market overview; digitalawards.ch: CHF 39 to 99 a month
Ongoing work on Google rankingsfrom CHF 500from CHF 6,000digitalawards.ch

A yearly budget for an SME website: if you look after it yourself, you only pay for domain and hosting. That is around CHF 140 to 1,200 a year or CHF 12 to 100 a month. If a provider handles maintenance, add CHF 600 to 1,200 a year. That brings you to around CHF 740 to 2,400 a year or CHF 60 to 200 a month. Hosting is often part of the maintenance plan, in which case that item falls away.

Over two years, digitalawards.ch puts it like this:

WebsiteLaunchRunning cost per monthTotal after 24 months
Digital business cardCHF 1,500 to 3,500CHF 0 to 100around CHF 1,500 to 5,900
Solid SME websiteCHF 4,000 to 8,000CHF 50 to 250around CHF 5,200 to 14,000
Website that wins enquiries on GoogleCHF 10,000 to 20,000CHF 500 to 1,500around CHF 22,000 to 56,000
Shop, portal or platformCHF 25,000 to 60,000 and moreCHF 500 to 3,000around CHF 37,000 to 132,000 and more

Over the years, the monthly costs can add up to more than the build. Always compare quotes over at least two years.

Is a website worth it for a small business?

The KMU Digital Pulse 2025 study by localsearch and Lucerne University of Applied Sciences (press release of 28 August 2025, in German) shows the gap. 82% of the population want to find information about SMEs online, and 80% start on Google or Bing. Yet only 36% of SMEs have their own website. A simple, well-kept website is often all it takes to close that gap.

How to compare quotes properly

Two quotes with the same price can contain very different things. These eight questions help you compare like for like:

  1. Fixed price: Does the quote state a fixed amount, or only an estimate in hours?
  2. Scope: How many pages and how many languages are included?
  3. Copy: Who writes the text, and is it included in the price?
  4. Mobile: Is the website tested on a phone before it goes live?
  5. Google: Is your Google Business Profile set up?
  6. Legal pages: Are the legal notice and privacy policy included?
  7. Running costs: What does the website cost per month after launch?
  8. Ownership: Are the domain, content and logins registered in your name?

If an offer comes as a subscription with a fixed term, work it out over three years. Our comparison Website subscription or your own website shows you how.

What brings the price down

Good preparation saves money with any provider:

  • One clear goal. Should the website bring enquiries, fill your diary or build trust? One goal saves detours in concept and design.
  • Supply the copy or write it together. Rewriting the copy costs CHF 1,000 to 6,000 according to digitalawards.ch. Price lists, keywords and the questions your customers ask most save you the most here.
  • Photos to hand. Pictures of your business, your team and your work save you a photographer or stock images.
  • Start small. Every extra page costs CHF 500 to 2,000 according to digitalawards.ch. Start with the pages your customers need today and add more later.
  • One person decides. Collected feedback instead of five emails saves rounds of corrections.
